A Good Read.

I've been super-duper busy blessed with work these last few weeks, it's crazy. We've been booked for events even for December 2013, for kiddie parties! Very grateful (versus very unhappy haha).  There are so many things I would like to blog about, but they will have to wait for now. However, I would like to share with you my current read, which I am satisfied with so far: "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green.

I grew up an avid reader of books, much to the dismay of my Dad. I say dismay because books are very expensive, and I could polish off a Sweet Valley book within an hour of reading it. I would read during lunch, dinner... in the moving car, in  a party. I wasn't a nerd or anything, I just really loved books! (This, however, did not make me as smart or as well-versed as I wished to be). This was a very expensive hobby growing up, and I had an extensive collection of books, mostly composed of Sweet Valley. =P (Sana may Kindle na that time).

After college, I found myself incredibly dissatisfied with my book purchases. Perhaps it's because when I read the profound books, I felt depressed and sad. When I read the intellectual books, I couldn't relate. I think I just kept wanting to read love stories. Twenty-three hours of my day (even in my dreams!) is about work and other serious topics, so I always thoroughly enjoyed the light love stories.

Some borrowed, some new books. I didn't like any of these though.
It's really funny that the book that knocked me off my feet in the last 10 years ( much to the dismay of my friends, hehe) is the Twilight Series. I picked up the book after my friend Alex, told me that our common friend Gabi said it was good. She pointed to a standing poster of the Coming Soon Twilight Movie. Since I read about anything, I bought a copy and brought it with me to Punta Fuego with the kids.

BOOM.

I finished the entire book at 4AM. I read it in the dark while my kids were sleeping. I could NOT wait to get home and buy the rest of the books. Straight from Punta Fuego, we went to watch the last movie of High School Musical. I read some of the books in the movie theatre. HAHAHAHAHA. You know, a lot of people hated this book (perhaps the same level I hated Fifty Shades), but I couldn't get enough of it! It was a kilig-fest for me! Perhaps I could relate to certain parts. Mwehehehe. Anyways, I tried reading it again 2 years after, and I still enjoyed it. (Puts L sign on forehead).

After that, I read all the other popular books that came my way. Fine, mostly love stories. But most of them were blah, boring, and not even worth reading. Some I hated with a passion, like Fifty Shades! Grrrrr! I had to put the book down so many times because I couldn't stand it!

The book I'm reading now is in one of the Top 10 Fiction Books list of Powerbooks. Added plus --- I was very attracted to the title. I love anything "stars-related." So I gave it a try. I don't want to give too much away, but it's about a girl with cancer who falls in love with a boy cancer. There's not much to the story -- it's pretty predictable, actually --- but it's beautifully written and endearing. Does that sound cliched? It probably is. But I love how it shows careless, young love, on a timer. They met knowing they both had cancer (different kinds, btw), and they made their short time together... infinite. It's not cheesy, and very cleverly written. One of the best books I've come across.. since Twilight (insert big cheesy smile HERE).
Gathering dust.
Anyways, do pick up a copy soon. (Books are always more awesome than Kindles! Hahaha!)

And while we're talking about Stars, I shall insert a video clip of one of my favorite contestants in this season of American Idol! Was a big fan last year (that happens when you're bedridden and Star World plays it 20x a day). He sang "Stars", which I initially thought was an original song, but apparently... wasn't. The lyrics are very meaningful for me *emo mode*

I lit a fire with the love you left behind,
And it burned wild and crept up the mountainside.
I followed your ashes into outer space
I can't look out the window,
I can't look at this place,

I can't look at the stars,
They make me wonder where you are
Stars,
Up on heaven's boulevard
And if I know you at all,
I know you've gone too far
So I, I can't look at the stars

His version is better than the original though! Nick Boddington, hope you make it to Top 12!
