The Best Thing I Ever Done
Ate at Ramen Yushoken again today. (Cheated on my diet!) There were some changes there this time. Gone was the paper menu, and it was replaced by a paper placemat menu with the brief story behind the restaurant and it's Ramen Gods, as well as FAQs regarding the dishes. INCREDIBLY HELPFUL.
Part of the info printed on the placemat, you can view HERE.
I don't suggest taking the time to read it before ordering, just order the Tantanmen and an Aji Tamago (or two) and you're all set. Try not to order softdrinks, just drink the cold water they serve in silver kettles when you order. Then read while waiting for your food, or while eating. Word to the wise --- don't eat until you're full. Or you'll end up like us, with rapidly inflating tummies an hour after (the noodles expand after you eat it!) Big mistake. But, oh, the meal was perfections. I haven't tried the others such as Ukkokei and Wrong Ramen, but I can't imagine it getting any better than Yushoken! (Though it should be noted that all foodies insist that they are different in terms of broth and style.)
Anyways, that's not what this post is about. A few months back, I came across an article of Lea Salonga on the newspaper, regarding two documentaries she watched and appreciated, regarding repetition and perfection. Reading the placemat reminded me that I needed to watch these two videos.
I am posting these links without having watched the videos yet (I'm saving them for tomorrow.) Based on all the feedback online though, these are worth watching. I'm a big believer in perfecting things only by practice. In fact, I had this grand masterplan with our 3rd child after reading Outliers... but that's a story for another day!
Hope you like them!
